After getting engaged in early June, we quickly realized that narrowing down where we wanted to tie the knot was job number one. Charleston has endless charm, stunning water views, and incredible history, but finding the exact space that fits your aesthetic, budget, and guest experience takes some legwork.
To help any other brides-to-be navigating the Lowcountry venue hunt, I’m launching this venue tour series to break down the spaces we visited, what we loved, what gave us pause, and who each venue is truly best for.
First up: Patriots Point Links in Mount Pleasant

THE AESTHETIC & FIRST IMPRESSIONS
Patriots Point is a true blank slate. Situated right along the harbor, the water views are gorgeous and give you that iconic coastal Lowcountry feel without the exorbitant price tag.
Because the site itself is an open lawn right next to the 18th hole, it functions as a completely open canvas. The lower rental rate means you have significant room left in your budget to go all out on florals, tenting, lighting, and rentals—and realistically, you will need to bring in quite a bit to transform the space into a formal reception setting.
WHAT WE LOVED (THE HIGHLIGHTS)
Unbeatable Price Point: This was easily the most affordable venue we toured in the Charleston area. If you want a Charleston zip code and water views without spending half your overall budget on the rental fee alone, this is a major contender.
Charming Golf-Themed Personalization: For couples who love golf, the location right on the course allows for playful touches. Couples have replaced the putting green pin flags with custom flags featuring their new last name or wedding monogram.
Interactive Cocktail Hour: Guests have access to a mini putting green during the event, which is an easy, built-in entertainment option for cocktail hour.
Breathtaking Harbor Views: You get direct, sweeping views across the water toward the peninsula, making for great sunset portraits.
THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND (THE TRADE OFFS)
No Dedicated Getting-Ready Suite: There is only a simple golf pro shop and clubhouse on-site. You and your wedding party will need to get hair and makeup done at an off-site hotel, rental home, or bridal suite and travel over before photos.
Golf Course Restrooms: The only indoor spaces available to your party and guests are the clubhouse restrooms. They are standard public golf-course facilities, which felt a bit underwhelming for a formal celebration.
Lack of Indoor Rain Backup: Aside from the restrooms, there is zero indoor event space. If weather rolls in, a tent with sidewalls is your only line of defense.
Active Course Proximity: Because the event area is right alongside the 18th green, regular golfers may be wrapping up their rounds within earshot or view of your setup or early arrivals.
THE VERDICT: WHO IS IT BEST FOR?
Patriots Point Links is a hidden gem for a couple who prioritizes an easygoing, outdoor celebration with waterfront views, has a passion for golf, or wants to keep fixed venue costs low so they can invest heavily in custom design and florals. If having private, luxury getting-ready suites and built-in indoor options is non-negotiable for your day, you may want to look further inland or toward the historic downtown properties.
